Female roles Essays Female roles Essay Female roles Essay Essay Topic: Pygmalion There have always been noticeably obvious differences among male and female roles in relationships. Women have always been treated more or less as objects of their partners and thought to only be there to support and to create pleasure and happiness. Females seen as the weaker sex have been abused emotionally, verbally and even physically due to the manipulative actions of men. This is a problem because young girls are grown up on fantasy beliefs of a fairy tale ending and thus have created false ideas in their heads. Over the last decade it has been indicated the gender roles in legislations have reformed, women are more likely to have power and not thought of as a thing owned by their husbands or to be less superior. In Ovoids tale of Pygmalion and Galatea and Bernard Shaw play Pygmalion, both writers expose relationships between man and women and the influence Of male dominance and the idea Of superiority Of masculinity. Galatea seen as the girl who cannot get away and Elise as the strong female, Shaw believes every women should be. Although there has been a change in the relative equality and power held between males and females in relationships, girls are still seen as weaker and still encounter male eminence in everyday affairs whether it may be verbal, emotional or physical abuse. In Ovoids tale, Pygmalion created Galatea to please his needs and desires, he did not care about what she wanted or how she felt. During that time, Pygmalion loathed women who were prostitutes and the idea that it was in the nature of females to become one. However it is thought today that most women are strong enough to stand up for themselves but in this case Galatea had no choice. : This illustrates how women are perceived in societies : In fairytale, the story produces the girls as victims in need of a rinse to rescue them. The classical romantic narrative, then, is problematic because its texts of meaning conform to a social order of male dominance and female submission that underwrites violence and abuse. As Pygmalion is kissing Galatea and touching her, she has no choice but to let him do it because of his power over her does modesty not forbid. The power that Pygmalion has over Galatea is important to recognize because she cannot do anything about it. Most young women in abusive relationships are too manipulated into believing everything will be okay to say no. In Pygmalion, Shaw portrays Mr.. Higgins as being very verbally abusive towards Elise. He uses Elise as a comparison to Galatea, only Elise knows whom she is and will stand up for herself. Shaw feminist views are portrayed numerously throughout the play. When Mrs.. Higgins states the girl has the right to leave if she chooses, it shows the power Elise has, and coming from another women displays even more dramatically that at this point in time Shaw believes a women can no longer be controlled or thought of as a service to a man. The verbal abuse portrayed from Mr.. Higgins is shown again when he says l have created this thing out of the squashed cabbage leaves of Covent Gardens Garbage, since Mr.. Higgins cares about no one but himself, he does not realize that saying this can emotionally hurt Elise because she does have an emotional connection towards him. Evidently, Most young girls may endure a boyfriends abuse, hoping that her love will change him. She may sees this as something she cannot help but that she can help him overcome through her understanding or by loving him enough, which is a mistake commonly made by young women. Although times have improved, this action of power between man and women and gender roles in relationships is still seen as a problem. The power a male holds over a women is still seen vastly amongst relationships. When it comes to Mr.. Higgins and Elise it is then again represented when Mrs.. Higgins calls Elise a lost umbrella, an object that Mr.. Higgins owns and does not respect. Elise is portrayed to BEA strong, independent woman, who knows who she is and what she wants, this is the type of character that Shaw believes all women should become but not all women have the power to do so. Girls have an idea in mind that falling in eve leads to marriage and living happily ever after. But this often doesnt happen, In breaking free of abusive relationships there is a very different version Of romance, with a new kind of happy ending (Philly never after, or the end of abuser. However, ending their abusive relationships is often complicated and difficult to achieve due to a young womens reluctance to hurt a boyfriend. Although Higgins did not care for Elise, he did still think that he owned her, and as she walked away he was astounded and wanted her back. Elise decided to be with the man who adored her instead of mutinously being hurt. A strong-minded women like Elise was smart enough to do what was best for her, but for many women, this is not easy. In both texts, women are portrayed as very submissive and weak. It is until Elise realizes that Mr.. Higgins does not care for her when she decides to instead of chasing the man who will always make her feel weak, she goes to be with the man who adores her. Galatea on the other hand, has no choice but to stay with the man who does not admire or care for her, and this represents many lost young women today.

Disadvantages vs. Advantages of Global Warming The United Nations has been studying climate change and working to combat its effects since the first Earth Summit in 1992.  The UN Intergovernmental panels fifth report, published in late 2014, reiterates that  global warming- more precisely called climate change- is happening and will likely not abate for centuries. The report also states with 95 percent certainty that the activity of humans has been the primary cause of increasing temperatures over the previous few decades, up from 90 percent in a previous report. Weve heard the dire warnings- even if we have yet to heed them- but could there possibly be any advantages to climate change, and if so, could these upsides possibly outweigh the downsides? The short answer is no. Heres why. Advantages of Global Warming? Its a Bit of a Stretch The so-called advantages of climate are out there- if youre really looking but do they compensate for the disruption and destruction wrought by the disadvantages? Again, the answer is no but for die-hard fans of the global warming trend, advantages might include the following suspect scenarios: The  Arctic, Antarctic, Siberia, and other frozen regions of the earth might experience more plant growth and milder climates.The next ice age could possibly be prevented.The  Northwest Passage through the formerly icy Canadian Arctic Archipelago could arguably open up to transportation.Fewer deaths or injuries would occur due to arctic conditions.Longer growing seasons could mean increased agricultural production in some areas. Disadvantages: Ocean Warming, Extreme Weather For every minutely possible advantage to climate change, there is a much more profound and compelling disadvantage. Why? Since the oceans and weather are highly interconnected and the water cycle has an impact on weather patterns (think air saturation, precipitation levels, and the like), what affects the ocean affects weather. For instance: Changes in ocean circulation and the resulting warmer temperatures disrupt the worlds normal weather patterns, bringing about more extreme weather and an increased frequency of severe and  catastrophic storms, such as hurricanes and typhoons. The increase in severe storms leads to a more frequent occurrence of such things as hundred-year floods, decimation of habitats and property, not to mention, loss of life- human and otherwise.  Ã‚  Higher sea levels  lead to flooding of lowlands. Islands and coastlines are engulfed by water leading to death and disease due to flooding.The acidification of warming oceans leads to a loss of coral reefs. Coral reefs protect shorelines from heavy waves, storms, and floods and while they only cover about 1 percent of the ocean floor, reefs provide a habitat for 25 percent of the oceans species. Demolished reefs lead to increased erosion and coastal property damage and the extinction of species.Warming ocean waters means increased melting of gla ciers and ice sheets. Smaller ice sheets form each subsequent winter, which has a devastating impact on the habitat of cold-climate animals and the Earths reserves of freshwater. (According to the United States Geography Survey [USGS], 69 percent of the Earths ice is locked in ice and glaciers.)   Less sea ice, warmer water, and increased acidity are catastrophic for krill which forms the base of the oceans food web and feeds whales, seals, fish, and penguins. The plight of polar bears due to the loss of Arctic ice is well documented, but at the other end of the globe, in 2017 as a result of local climate change, in a colony of  40,000 Antarctic Adà ©lie penguins, only two chicks survived. (In 2013, in the wake of a similar event, none survived.) Emperor penguin colonies are also expected to decline due to loss of sea ice and rising temperatures. Disadvantages: Land Desertification As weather patterns are disrupted and droughts intensify in duration and frequency, agricultural sectors are particularly hard hit. Crops and grasslands cant thrive due to lack of water. With crops unavailable,  cattle, sheep, and other livestock dont get fed and die. Marginal lands are no longer useful. Farmers who find themselves unable to work the land lose their livelihoods. In addition:   Deserts become  drier, leading to increased desertification, resulting in border conflicts in already water-scarce areas.Decreased agricultural production leads to food shortages.Starvation, malnutrition, and increased deaths result from food and crop shortages. Disadvantages: Health, Social, and Economic Impact In addition to climate change affecting weather patterns and food production, which in turn have a negative impact on the future of human race as well as the planet, climate change can also put the hurt on peoples pocketbooks, the economy of an area on a larger scale, and health in general:   Insect-borne diseases increase. For example, if insects dont die off in an area because it no longer reaches the cold temperatures it once did, diseases those insects may carry- such Lyme disease- can proliferate more easily.People from poorer, drier, hotter, or low-lying countries may attempt to emigrate to wealthier or higher-elevation locales  seeking better (or at least nondeadly) conditions, causing tension among the existing population.As climates warm overall, people  use more energy resources for cooling needs, which will lead to a rise in air pollution  and deaths from increasingly hot weather conditions that cannot be mitigated.Allergy and asthma rates go up due to pollution exacerbated by the earlier and longer blooming of plants.Cultural or  heritage sites  are  destroyed due to increased extremes and acid rain. Disadvantages: Nature Out of Balance The environment around us is affected by climate change in a multitude of ways. The component parts of any ecosystem normally must maintain a delicate balance but climate change is throwing nature is out of whack- in some places more than others. Effects include:   Increase in the number of species of animals and plants heading toward extinction.Loss of animal and plant habitats causes animals to move into other territories, disrupting ecosystems that are already established.Because the behaviors of many plants, insects, and animals are dependent on temperature, a change in climate can cause an imbalance in the ecosystem itself. For example,  say the availability of food for a particular insect no longer coincides with the time when the offspring of the natural predator for that insect is born. Uncontrolled by predation, the insect population booms, resulting in an overabundance of that pest. This, in turn, leads to increased stress on the foliage the insects eat, which ultimately results in a loss of food for larger animals in the food chain that also depend on those plants for sustenance.Pests such as viruses, fungi, or parasites that usually perish at a certain low temperature no longer die off, which may lead to an increase in disease amo ng plants, animals, and humans.  Ã‚   Melting of permafrost leads to flooding and greatly increases the release of carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere which only serves to exacerbate climate change. In addition, ancient viruses long held in stasis by the permafrost are allowed to escape into  the environment.  Rainfall increases in acidity.Earlier seasonal drying of forests leads to forest fires of increased frequency, size, and intensity. Loss of plants and trees on hillsides leaves them more vulnerable to erosion and landslides and may lead to an increased probability of property damage and loss of life.

Correlation of Mathematics With Other Subjects â€Å"No subject is ever well understood and no art is intelligently practiced, if the light which the other studies are able to throw upon it is deliberately shut out.† – RAMONT What is correlation? The meaning of term ‘correlation’ in simplest form is â€Å"connect† or â€Å"to be connected†. More precisely, ‘Correlation’ means mutual relation of two or more items/things or Mutual relation of two or more than two items/things. The relation may be inverse or direct. For examle if there are two variables ‘a’ and ‘b’, if there is increase or decrease in one will affect on other. It is really a brainstorming activity which involves lots of efforts to be establishing relationship between school Subjects. In modern scenario, due to the number of innovation of 21st century involves lots of development in the education. These involve meaningful knowledge of the concept. Here child’s mind is an integrated whole, he wants to receive experiences in a fruitful manner. Definition â€Å"Correlation indicates a joint-relationship between two variables.† Lathrop â€Å"Correlation is concerned with describing the degree of relation between variables.† Ferguson â€Å"Correlation is an analysis of co-variation between two or more variables.† A.M. Taule â€Å"Correlation analysis deals with the association between two or more variables.† Simpson Kafka Types of correlation Positive correlation – when an increase in one variable, increases the value of another variable or vice versa. Negative correlation when an increase in one variable, decreases the value of another variable or vice versa. Incidental correlation It is not a planned/pre-decided, no deliberate or a systematic attempt made to correlate it. Teacher plays a leading role. E.g. If any teacher has basic knowledge of concepts/elements of versatile or different subjects, he can easily make correlation between two or more subjects. A teacher cannot establish incidental correlation without having knowledge of different subjects. Systematic correlation – teachers can sit together with his students and how to correlate? While doing systematic correlation, the previous knowledge/content of the student should be related with the current knowledge. To relate the same is called systematic correlation. Here, the student and the teacher have to think about the application of the fact, laws, principles, and correlation of two subjects. After that knowledge becomes interesting. No correlation when there is no mutual relationship between the two variables. It is also known as no linear dependent. Uses of correlation: The aim of education is â€Å"to achieve the all round development of a child†, this cannot be done by teaching only in simple classroom. In correlation, the practical subjects like maths and science plays important role. Where the correlation with concepts is used in learning of students. It makes learning permanent and concrete and knowledge to the learner. It makes the lesson easy and clear for the student. It enhances the mental abilities like problem solving, logical reasoning, imagination, and analytical power of student, because these can easily correlate acquired knowledge with the other subjects. It strengthens the skill, complexity of practical subject and makes mastery over the practical subject. It develops social relationship like human and social qualities in students. For teachers; it helps to complete the curriculum within short period of time and provides time for revision. Knowledge is useful and is maintained so that it can be developed and used in day to day life. Examples of dependent phenomena include the Relation between parents and their offsprings. The correlation between theprice and availabilty of product in the market. The theoretical aspect of anything explains the practical concept. Even a crime is also related to wrong addictions. The negative correlation between age and normal vision. The positive correlation between the incidence of lung cancer and cigarette smoking. Correlation of Mathematics with other disciplines Mathematics is â€Å"Science of all Sciences† and â€Å"Art of all Arts†. After understanding the basic concept of mathematics, students need to correlate the importance and concept of mathematics with other subjects, so as to understand other subjects easily and establishing relationship. Mathematical knowledge plays a crucial role in understanding the contents of other subjects. MATHEMATICS WITH GENERAL SCIENCE: Science without mathematics is totally meaningless, because chemical reactions, scientific theories and detail of elements are only generated/ counted with the help of mathematics. Mathematics is used in most of applications like in work, energy, electricity, motion, gravitation, magnetism etc. MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS: child should have rich knowledge of mathematics to understand physics. Generally final shape to the rules of physics is given by mathematics; it presents these rules in practically workable form. Mathematical calculations occur in every step of physical science. Charle’s law of expansion of gases is based upon mathematical calculations, numerical problems on liquid, pressure,frictional force, laws of motion, gravitation, momentum etc. MATHEMATICS AND CHEMISTRY: Molecular weights of organic compounds are calculated with mathematics. To measure the constituents of mixtures and Chemical compounds. To calculate Empirical or molecular formula. In balancing the chemical equations. In electronic configuration of atom of the element. Charle’s law of expansion of gases is based upon mathematical calculations. MATHEMATICS AND BIOLOGY: Mathematics has very high correlation with biology. The Normal Weight, Caloric value, Rate of Respiration, Nutritive Value of Food, Transpiration, is calculated by Maths. The Growth in Weight of infants’ upto Nine months. To count the number of bones in human being and other different species. To measure blood pressure. To count the number of WBC RBC in different blood groups. To count Sex chromosomes. MATHEMATICS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES: After completion of the unit child can read, interpret, and draw the graphs. MATHEMATICS AND ICT: The ICT is strongly correlated with mathematics. Computer programmes, applications, software and different languages without mathematics are impossible to operate and follow. Students are taught computers only because of knowledge of mathematics. Computer Provides important software for calculation e.g. SPSS software used in the long statistical calculations for research work. An enjoyable experience

My enjoyable experience is going to Alton towers with school, first of all we came in on the busses and by car in our own clothes then first we went to assembly and then on to registration. We got on the busses to go on our way to Alton towers the journey took about 2 and a half hours to get there when we got there we all got given a ticket too get in the we all went running of I was with Lindsey and Ella first we ran to oblivion it looked very scary but Mr Wynne persuaded me to go on it, oblivion is a ride at Alton towers that you go up a slight hill for about a minute and then when we got to the top, we went round a slight bent in the track and as soon as we got round the bend we thought we were just going to go and plummet but no we were hanging of the edge of the track for 3 seconds which felt like 10 minutes you can feel your heart pounding as you plummet 200 feet into a deep, dark underground hole. After that we found the ride air which on the ride you swoop, soar, dive and most people pretend to be superman you feel like you don't weigh a single pound. Then we went on the ride nemesis this ride is weird, takes you over rivers of blood and rock, the force will leave you breathless as you do the loop de loop. Then on the run again to rita the queen of speed, you might want to hold onto your eyeballs as you're catapulted at tremendous speed when the traffic lights turn green, the train goes from 0 to100 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds. You will come off tingling with excitement and your heart beating so fast. And off again on the run to ripsaw when you take your seat on the ride, no-one is safe from getting wet. The water rises and falls as you swing around in and out of the fountains and we got absolutely soaked. We also went on duel which is a haunted house and you have to shoot ghosts and ghools with a fake plastic gun while you are on a run away train. The flume was the last ride we went on before we had to get on the bus back to school, on the flume you should prepare to get wet, you climb into your bathtub which is like your boat, fly down drops and through waterfalls before finishing off in the power shower and you better watch out for the ducks.

Why Arent Jewish Women Circumcised by Shayne J.D. Cohen

Shayne J. D. Cohen presents an extensive study of the question â€Å"why aren’t Jewish women circumcised?† Throughout the book he examines this question in a number of different and unique ways. He writes this book in hopes to inform and educate the curious mind such as scholars and lay people. Furthermore, he states that â€Å"In this book I am interested not only in the history of Jewish circumcision but also, and perhaps even more so, in the history of Jewishness.† (Cohen, pg.xii) In other words, Cohen not only presents the reader with the history of the question, but also the history of the Jews and Christians. Overall, Shayne J. D. Cohen brings up the issue of gender within Judaism when he asks the question, also known as the title of the book,†¦show more content†¦He also brings up the claim of women’s superiority as well as arguments within both of these topics. In chapter five, Cohen explains that circumcision indicates that the normative way of being Jewish rests with Jewish men, therefore downgrading the status of women. After closely looking at this chapter in particular, I noticed that one can easily compare to this to course material. There are number of ways in which the status of women is lowered because of Jewish men throughout the class. For example, the inability to study and touch the Torah can serve as a downgrade towards the status of Jewish women. (Course notes, September 23, 2013) Chapter six entails that circumcision signals a moral, as well as an ontological defect in men. For example, it can be an excess of lust, therefore, the cutting of the foreskin can be looked at as a cure. Furthermore, chapter 7 presents that it is faith, not circumcision, which is the determining sign for Judaism. In other words, both men and women, therefore, can be equally as Jewish.
