Analysis of the problems

This case study highlights about the analysis of the problems, background, theories, and action plans. Before exploring Tucker Company, it is necessary to know the background including its past and present. It will be discussed further about the problems in Tucker Company that occurred when it reorganizing its company into 3 new divisions. The 3 new divisions are also known as 3 new product lines of Tucker Company. In the following point, it draws the relation among those problems with some managements theories. In the end of this report, it will also be provided what the company should do to solve those problems. II)Case background Tucker Company carried out an extensive restructuring I 1978 which divide the company into three major product lines and will lead by a new vice – president and he will report to Mr. Harnett, the CEO of Tucker Company. The new product lines were commercial jet engines, military jet engines and utility turbines. Each division would have their departments such as manufacturing, engineering and accounting department. There was a old laboratory which continue support the three main division after the reorganization. Mr Hodge was the new manager of the laboratory manager in 1988. He focused more on his own advancement more than the company’s development. Few months later, several conflicts occurred in his laboratory and he was the main reason which caused this conflicts. Argument happened between Mr. Hodge and Mr. Franklin, the manager of engineering department over the implementation of the results and the time of handling his request taking a longer time under his management. The arguments between Mr. Hodge and Mr. Franklin occur successively and caused one of the Mr. Franklin’s projects failed. III) Problem analysis Problem that occurred in Tucker Company is conflict while the progressing of Tucker Companys reorganization its company into 3 principle product lines. It was about personal conflict between Hodge and Franklin who disagreed over the implementation of the materials. Even though it was personal problem, it could affect all aspects of the company and it might become a crucial matter. The engineer of the utility turbine division, Mr. Franklin, wanted his department to be in charge in final decision of the materials. Meanwhile, Mr. Hodge, the new laboratory manager, as the replacement of the previous laboratory manager which was Mr. Garfield. Mr. Hodge stated that he is a metallurgist. Thus, the final decision should be on him. Unlike Mr. Garfield, from the point of view of Mr. Hodges peers, he was more interested in his own advancement rather than companys advancement. IV)a)Theories Management theory – divisional structure Divisional structure can be defined as a structure which usually consists of several parallel teams focusing on a single product or service line. Tucker Company applies this divisional structure and divides into 3 product lines which were commercial jet engines, military jet engines and utility turbines. There were some advantages and disadvantages of this divisional structure. i)Advantage The advantage of using divisional structure was that every team or group will be focused on a single product and supported by a leadership structure. The manager has to divide the workers with same abilities and talents into a same group and focus on the product which they were expertise in. Through this method, the company will become more effective and will have higher productivity. Furthermore, due to the division, it is easier for manager to measure their performance. Another advantage by applying this divisional structure will be each product lines were self sufficient and flexible. The divisional structure was designed so each teams or groups were self-sufficient which means each group will have its own department. For instance, in Tucker Company, 3 new product lines will have its own department such as engineering department, manufacturing department and accounting department and these groups will operate separately so that these groups can focused on a particular goal. ii)Disadvantage On the other hand, the disadvantage for this divisional structure was the cost of operations was usually very high. In Tucker Company, each products line will have their departments and each department needed its own resources and these will increase the cost of operations. In addition, each product lines will have 1 divisional head and conflicts between divisional heads will occurred when every divisional heads wants to show their supremacy. Company could not operate well if every divisional heads would not cooperate well and could not meet the company’s goals and objective. b)Theory of scarcity First of all, scarcity means unlimited wants and limited resources and it was impossible for a company to meet all goals at the same time. Same problem happened in Tucker Company. Tucker Company has 3 products lines but only 1 laboratory. It was simply means that the company has scarce resources which refer to the laboratory. 3 departments are using 1 laboratory at the laboratory cannot used by three departments at the same time. So they have to choose which departments have to use first and other department shave to give up using it. It has been a really long journey but I have finally made it to the infundibulum, this is the outer part of a women’s fallopian tube. My medical name is known as â€Å"Ova†, but to my friends I am known as Eve or Egg. I have recently been in contact with a germ cell named Adam. His medical name is known as â€Å"Sperm† and he lives inside of a human body of a male. Adam and I have been dreaming and planning this adventure for quite some time now. I am just praying that when we finally do meet that everything goes according to plan. You see, this day is so important because when Adam and I meet we will be joining as one to create a life. When we unite we will create either a male or female embryo which will grow into a baby. This process all starts with the life of a female human being. When a female child is born they are born with all the ova they will ever have throughout their life, which is about 2 million. After about 15-17 years that child is more developed and goes through a stage in their life called puberty. Only about 400, 00 of the 2 million Ova make it through this stage in a women’s life. I was lucky enough to be one of those 400, 00 who made it through. After this stage myself and the remaining ova resided in a thin capsule inside the women’s ovaries called the follicle. When the woman has reached her reproductive years and the ova have reached their full ripened potential they will be released in hopes of fertilization. There are only about 400 ripened ova that typically make it to possible fertilization. This is roughly 1ova per month (Rathus, S. A. , Nevid, J. S. , amp; Fichner-Rathus, L 2011) and today is my day, the day I have been planning my whole life. Today is the day Adam and I will embark on a journey to create a life. I have just been released and am now making my way to the fallopian tube. Once I reach the fallopian tube I will wait for Adam patiently and we will set off on our journey together. Traveling down the fallopian tube is about a 4 inches long, and will not be a quick trip, however it is vital. The fallopian tube works like a passageway to help nourish and conduct myself and other ova passing through on our way to the uterus. Cilia are hair like projections that line the fallopian tube that help me along my journey. The cilia move me through the tube about 1 inch day. Fertilization usually occurs in the infundibulum, within a couple of inches of the ovaries because ova must be fertilized within a day or two after they are released from the ovaries. Rathus, S. Adams journey will begin in the seminiferous tubules, which is located inside of male’s testes. While in this location Adam will develop which will take about 2 months for him to reach his full ripened potential. Onc e Adam is developed and ready to go he will travel to the epididymis where he will be carried to the urethra from the force of ejaculation. Once in the urethra Adam will meet a mixture of secretions that were created by his host’s prostate gland. This mixture that was created will help Adam find his way to Eve to begin their journey together. When Adam’s host is sexual aroused and is about the ejaculate his pelvic muscles will begin to contract. Procedure: To begin, weigh out about 15 grams of onion cubes and place it in a 400 ml beaker. Add about 60 ml of homogenizing medium to the onion cubes. Place it in a warm water bath for 8 minutes. Dont let it tip over!!! This softens onion tissue and allows homogenizing medium to penetrate the onion. The enzymes also get denatured. Quickly cool the solution to 15-20 degrees Celsius in an ice bath. Dont let it tip over!! Put the cooled solution in a blender. Blend for 45 seconds at high speed. Pour the result into a 500 ml beaker. Put this into an ice bath for 8 minutes. Set up a filter (cheesecloth 2 layers) in a funnel during the 8 minute wait. Pour the white solution through the filter into the other 500 ml beaker (leave the foam behind!). Take 25 ml of filtrate and pour it into a clean 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask. Put the flask in an ice bath until it cools to 10 15 degrees Celsius. Slowly add 50 ml of ice cold ethanol down the side of the flask until a white, stringy chromatin pr ecipitate occurs (the stuff will look stringy and cloudy). Wind the stringy DNA on a glass rod by turning the rod in one direction only. Data: Before we poured the ice cold ethanol down the side of the flask in the final step, there was a film at the top of the solution. We poured in all 80 ml of ethanol. There were 3 clear layers; a clear ethanol layer at the top, a DNA interface, clear with whitish strands, and quite visible unlike the protein, and a yellow homogenate at the bottom. This time he injures himself badly. He lets out a loud cry as the mother comes to rescue him. However, seems like the boy is used to such accidents. They go upstairs and take about five minutes. They come down to the sitting room. The boy had changed attires. He admires the new top. The mother just bought it the other day. The boy goes to the mirror. He is so pleased with the new shirt. He thanks his mom for it and kisses her cheek. The boy gets back to the cartoons. After a short time, the doorbell rings. It is the daddy. This time around the boy goes for the door himself. The knob is too high for him, but he struggles until he gets it. Daddy comes in as the boy jumps to daddy’s shoulder. He is so much in love with daddy that daddy calls him â€Å"My brave boy!† He is quick to tell daddy that a visitor has come to do her homework in his study table. Daddy already knew I would be coming. He does not disturb my progress. He simply waves, and I wave back. The boy abandons the mother’s snack and curiously reaches for daddy’s basket to get the new snacks. He finds quite a number but prefers the chocolate first. At three years of age, a child exhibits certain development milestones. As far as physical development is concerned, the child’s movement is an indicator.
